Every room at Thorn Run Inn expresses our dedication to comfort and craftsmanship from a culture past.  In addition to hardwood floors, and beautiful full-sized windows, there are ceiling fans in every guestroom.  Below are descriptions of each of these rooms.  Please note that room furnishings change from time to time as we find prizes at local auctions. For current room prices please consult our prices page

Home

The Greenland Gap Suite has two large rooms joined with a doorway.  The first of these rooms opens to the front hallway and has a window looking eastward out the front of the Inn.  The queen-sized bed pictured to the left is a Maine County bed, with an antique family coverlet hanging on the wall.  The framed print is a copy of a watercolor of our barn done by a Scottish guest of the house.  The room features a beautiful but non-functional fireplace in which we have placed candles.  The room also includes two armchairs, a beautiful coffee table, an armoire, and an oak library desk with chair.   The full-sized bed to the right is in the adjoining room with the doorway visible just to the left of the bed.  This room contains the bathroom and its furnishings include a dresser; with mirror, old farm table with two chairs, and a small armchair rocker by the window.

When the house was first built this was its most private room, and as such, was a sort of men's smoking room.  It is thus, the "grand room" with the biggest fireplace, and most ornate trim.  We have outfitted the bathroom with fixtures that make it more friendly to people with limited mobility--if this is of interest to you feel free to ask us for more details.

Two of our rooms open onto the landing at the top of the central staircase.  The one pictured to the right is the Mountain Room, named after Patterson's Creek Mountain seen from one of its windowsIt features an old iron full-sized bed with a feather mattress. This is our brightest room with a large window looking west and another looking east over the front lawn.  It furnishings include a dresser, a rocker, a small arm chair and table.  The bathroom in this room has a bathtub.
The Sunrise Room is the second room located off the landing at the top of the central staircase.  This room has a queen-sized bed with a feather mattress, and a bathroom with a shower.  Other furnishings include a dresser with mirror, a handmade drop leaf pine table, an armchair, a rocking chair, and an antique sewing machine. The quilt hanging on the wall came from a local farm auction.
At the top of the back stairway are two guestrooms and a shared bathroom.  The two rooms are the Sugar Maple Room, and the Chestnut Room.  The main bed in the Sugar Maple Room is pictured to the right.  It is a full-sized bed with a feather mattress.  This room also has a twin-sized bed against the other wall.  Its furnishings include the old desk and desk chair in the picture, as well as a dresser and small rocking chair.  This room shares a bathroom with the room across the landing.
The Chestnut Room includes this old iron full-sized bed and a twin-sized bed.  This room (also pictured at the top of this page from the opposing angle.) is furnished with an oak dresser and mirror, chair and rocker, and end tables.  As the rearmost room in the house, this may well have been the mother-in-law suite, or perhaps a room for the hired help.  As such, it's trim, floors, windows... demonstrate a simplicity that in early times was seen as low status, but which now make it a favorite room of our best customers.
